Astorga

Astorga, in the province of Castille and Leon, is best known for the bishop's palace, built in 1889 by the famous architect Gaudi. The building shows both medieval and modern influences, and seems almost a living thing with its undulating curves. But Astorga was a Roman town, and the old city walls still survive in places. There is also a magnificent Renaissance cathedral.

The region of Castille took its name from the many castles built there.
