Queluz

Between Sintra and Lisbon is yet another royal palace, this one built
by Pedro III and Maria I (who were uncle and niece, and who ruled jointly)
in the mid-eighteenth century in imitation of the French palace of Versailles.

The palace is surrounded by manicured formal gardens, also in the French style of Versailles.

Most incredible was the canal (now drained) lined its whole length with decorated tiles
and sculptures, where the royal family could pass the time by floating along in a boat.
